Artist Statement
Conceptually my work focuses on the small stories of people. Solitary figures standing longingly in a room with titles hinting at love lost, loneliness, or longing make works that emulate memories. Usually working on a smaller scale, my work exists more like intimate keepsakes for the viewer to reflect on, like a picture of a lost lover that someone might have on their nightstand, rather than large grandiose pieces. This focus on the small has arisen as a reaction to the instability of people, places, and things in my life as result of frequently moving. Working smaller mirrors the moments in moving and packing where we wish the things we carried were just a little bit smaller, a little more compact, and a little less unwieldy.
